How do you overcome extreme anxiety or aversion assoc. with huge crowded noisy public places in NY?

Especially when you are alone?
I’m talking huge grocery stores like Whole Foods, crowded subway trains and platforms, Madison Square Garden, the Met, St. Peter’s Jazz Vespers, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, etc.. I was recently invited on a date to partic. in the John Lennon vigil in Central Park. Yikes.
I will go to places like this if I have to, but I usu. have to force myself. I just feel overwhelmed by all the noise, the negativity, the pushing and shoving, no sense of personal boundaries. I can feel all these energies, and unless I shield myself with music, mantras, affirmations, prayer, visualizing a love shield of white light protecting me, etc. feel panicked, fatigued, or extremely detached.
I am very good at finding all the intimate spaces I love in NY when I am out on my own. I go to open mics, clubs, restaurants ,and groc. stores where people know me. I am going to leave NY one day, but in the here and now I want to enjoy fabulous places I usu. avoid.
