This is a great little book – an easy read, a lot of room for writing and good suggestions but maybe I was just looking for the REAL KEY to LIVING the Law of Attraction – By purchasing and reading I was sure that I was going to become privy to the SECRETS of making this work.

Good: Canfield’s thoughts on the Law of Atraction(LOA)are concise and clear. The steps to take are simple to understand and follow. He does a good job of letting the reader know we are all in this together. It is important to better you and take in consideration everyone else. The book is small, which is good for this subject. It is a simple concept. All the words have purpose.

Bad: Part of the LOA is thinking positive. Canfield makes a point of changing how you think by removing the No’s and Not’s out of what you say. For example: Instead of thinking “I don’t want to be Late,” think “I want to be on time.” The problem is the whole book is using phrases with No’s and Not’s and making points using No’s and Not’s. If we are supposed to be thinking positive, then why is the book riddled with negative words, which took negative thought to come up with. Those negative ways of expressing your point is then transferred to the reader.

Ugly: I look at life with an open mind. Once I get information I then question it. For me it is important to be able to verify what is being said by personal experience or verifiable fact. Many statements are said that I am unable to do either of those things. For example, Canfield writes that the subconscious mind has impulses that travel at over 100,000 mph. Where did that information come from? What study found that as fact? How can you verify it’s the subconscious mind over the conscious mind? Canfield gives little ability to verify that and other statements that is expected of the reader to accept as true.

Out of the five LOA books I have read, I would put this at #4 of being the most useful. The #2 book on my list, Losier’s “The Law of Attraction” does a much better job of formulating the information in a work book manner. The #1 book, Meijer Bjorn’s “The Secret of Life: Right Under Your Nose,” presents the LOA information clearly and I have the ability to verify what is being said. It also answers the questions I have of other universal “Laws” that create our experience. I would recommend both, especially Bjorn’s, over Canfield’s “Key.”

I found it oddly funny that there are these books that talk about how all you have to do is “manifest” or visualize your life the way you want it to be, or things you want, whatever, etc and yet here is one that claims to have the key for making this idea really work – but the key is “you must also DO”, which seems to me to negate the whole idea of our minds interfacing with some universal “source” to “create our future”.

After reading through this book it became clear to me that the real “secret” to making this “Law” work is to get off your butt and go actively do things that move you toward your carefully thought out goals. That is basically the summary of this book’s message: Visualize what you want, THEN ACTIVELY GO WORK TOWARD THOSE GOALS. An example would be if you really want a new Lexus, just visualize yourself driving that new car, but then you also need to actively go work and save money for it! (as best as I can understand what he is saying here) In other words, just “visualizing” something does not just “magically attract” it into your life. Well of course I can “attract” a new Lexus into my life if I set that goal and save up the money to buy one – duh.

Essentially he says you can be happy, and healthy, and wealthy, etc, simply by CHOOSING to be those things. If you want to be happy, well then, simply stop being unhappy and start thinking happy thoughts and being thankful for whatever is in your life, even if it is making you unhappy. Because “people are as happy as they choose to be”.

Am I the only one who sees the ridiculousness and total lack of substance of this? I told my wife, who has LUPUS, to just “stop being sick” because Canfield says plainly here that SHE is responsible for creating her own life, so her having progressively worsening LUPUS is, ultimately, HER FAULT. Oh, she loved that.

So, he says simply think happy thoughts, and go do the things you love, so that, guess what, you mysteriously become happy because of this “Law of Attraction” attracts the happiness into your life. No, you become happy in this case because you are doing what you love instead of trudging off to a job you don’t love every day! Not everyone can just drop everything and go off to do the things they love, or “follow their dreams” as he emphasizes it in the book.

So, basically, if this “Law” REALLY works (and it REALLY is a “law”, as claimed), then if what I really want is to win the lottery, and I fully believe that this would make me happy, all I need to do is visualize myself winning the lottery and then take action by going out and buying a lottery ticket, because, according to these “secret/law of attraction” pushers, you should be able to tap into the Quantum Field and direct the “Universe” or the “Source”, or whatever to MAKE THE LOTTERY NUMBERS match your ticket because you have focused on that desire while also thinking other “happy thoughts” and pre-”experiencing” the joy you really will experience when you hit the jackpot.

So, I plan to test this “law” this week. When I win the lottery I will come back here and “happily” amend my review. According to the guidelines laid out in this book, this should be a *very* simple test of the ability to “create your life”. If the “Source” can’t manage to make a series of ping-pong balls line up in a given order, how can it possibly make more significant changes to someone’s life (like attracting health to make LUPUS go away)?

If you hear nothing more from me, you can safely assume that IT DOESN’T WORK.

And of course, when it fails to work, “believers” will say it is because *I* did not properly follow this supposedly “simple guide” to “create the life of my dreams” rather than because there is nothing to the whole “you create your life” theory.

As another reviewer said, Canfield is simply recycling other peoples’ words. Nothing original. There’s another take on the man behind this glitzy self-help cult. Read Canfield’s (abandonded) son Oran’s book, *Long Past Stopping: A Memoir*. You might learn something.
